Moore's Musings

Richland One family,
I want to take a moment to once again stress that the RCSD1 Board at-large-seat that I am seeking is NON-PARTISAN. That, along with the fact that at-large seats serve the entire district, were major factors in my decision to run. Non-partisan means I could have a politically diverse group of supporters with many different agendas. I have campaigned to individuals and at forums and community organizations and I have not asked for the endorsement of any organization, nor has any organization contributed to my campaign. Let me assure you that when you vote for me you need only be concerned with one agenda – mine. That agenda is to be of service to EVERY student, family, school, staff member and community in RCSD1! My slogan is not just clever words: Vote Moore, Get Moore – only Moore and no less!

My Philosophy & Impact

Philosophy:
Education is about relationships. You can feed large numbers of children, you can house large numbers of children, and you can transport large numbers of children, but children are educated one on one. For a student to learn something it must be important to them or important to someone they care about. They care about people who care about them. It is this phenomenon that causes teachers to have such an enormous influence on student achievement. This also applies to all the adults in the child’s classroom and school environments. That relationship that makes the difference to a child can be a parent, a teacher, a staff member or an administrator. Schools must make a conscious effort to ensure that each student has such a relationship. This means that we need to put as many adults in the building as we can. Adults who hold students to high expectations regardless of what personal resources the students bring with them. Adults that are committed to letting students know that they understand their circumstances and they will help them to deal with any negative aspects, but that the expectation that they can succeed never wavers. Our use of resources should reflect that. Then the administration at the school level needs to provide those adults with a wide variety of tools and the resources needed to use those tools including materials, time and money. District efforts that are not focused on providing safe, nurturing, challenging and effective classrooms for students and teachers should be considered secondary. I believe that such a focus will result in higher student achievement
Impact:
My impact as a board member, when elected, will be to use my expertise, experience, and unwavering commitment to review and establish policies that prioritize student achievement in every school and for every student. I will hold our administration accountable for following policy. I will hold the administration accountable for providing support in recruiting and retaining building level administrators, teachers and other staff members that can foster the type of classrooms described above. I will hold the administration accountable for managing the facilities and finances of the district in a way that supports those classrooms. This includes regular, consistent and fair evaluations of programs, schools and personnel from the classroom level through the superintendent. I am a fair and balanced voice, committed to asking hard questions and I believe that I can help make a difference.

As we near the end of the school year, I want to say that I am still concerned about the issues I had as my priorities when I ran In 2022. I will be running for an at-large seat on the Richland County Board of School Commissioners again in November 2024. I hope that those of you who supported me before, will choose to support me again. I also hope that anyone reading this who did not support me in the election, will do so this time around.
There are four ways in which you can show your support:
1. Tell everyone you know about me and my interest in helping improve our district;
2. Attend and promote campaign events;
3. Consider contributing to my campaign both financially and as a volunteer;
4. Vote for me in November!
I look forward to serving you in the next four years!

VOTE MOORE, GET MOORE in '24!
I will be running again for an at-large seat on the Richland School District One Board of School Commissioners. My concerns from my last run are still largely unaddressed. After the events of last few days and this last board meeting, I am more convinced than ever of the need for change.
There is still a remarkable lack of reliable information coming from the administration. This board allowed some members in the past to be ignored by the administration when information was requested and are now "surprised" when they continue to be told "I don't know". When a board allows any one member to be disrespected or ignored they should know that their turn will come.
As for Human Resource Services personnel that do not know how many vacancies there are or how many uncertified teachers we have in classrooms, all I can say is that in my time in HR, we could not leave for the day without having reviewed the latest statistics on vacancies, applicants and hires. The superintendent should demand better information and the board should as well. Some board members have been asking about this for a while. It is good to see others catching up.
As to staffing inequities and why it has taken certain schools to complain to bring it to the board's attention, it has long been a fact that there is inequity between schools in this district. I would hope that EVERYONE would take this opportunity to call for a closer look at staffing and other areas to insure that all of our students, regardless of what school they attend, will have the best facilities, resources, teachers and administrators. No student should be served at the expense of others.
